Fainters
Over the course of 4 kids and 11 years, I haven’t had a kid faint. Until yesterday. Phone rings. Caller id says it’s Gus’ kindergarten teacher. ”Oh great, what has he done?” I wonder. But the voice is not the kdg teacher but that of the principal of the school so I figure Gus has done something really, really bad.
“Kay has fainted.” I digest her words thinking she’s telling me Kay had fainted earlier in the day and the purpose of her call was advisory only.
I say, “ok, alright then.” Huh? Who says that? A good mom should ask if her daughter is Ok.
The principal then asks if I can come up to church quickly because because she’s been out for a few minutes.
I haul a$$ to school (thank GOD no one panicked and called an ambulance). A capri sun and granola bar later she was fine.
As it would turn out, they’d been practicing for the Christmas musical on the risers for almost the entire morning and Kay told her teacher she was feeling light headed. My other daughter was there to tell the teachers Kay hadn’t really eaten breakfast that morning and was also calm enough to tell the principal my phone number. And what were my other two kids doing? Gus lost a tooth at right about the same time Kay fainted and poor little Mimi was just very, very confused by a brother with a bloody face and a passed out sister.
Reminder: make child #1 EAT BREAKFAST!
